The One Habit That Will Make or Break Your Success
What if the difference between stuck and unstoppable is as ordinary as making your bed? We pull back the curtain on our influencer cruise, the message we shared with our community, and the simple, repeatable actions that quietly create big wins. From faith-driven decisions to daily disciplines, we connect the dots between purpose, habits, and results—without hacks or hype.
A Navy SEAL once told our team that the edge isn’t superhuman talent; it’s mastering the basics. That idea shows up everywhere: Larry Bird drilling free throws, Tim Duncan winning with fundamentals, and our top affiliates posting consistently and engaging their audience. We explore how to reverse engineer any goal into a few small actions you can do every day, then show how consistency compounds into momentum that lasts.
We also talk life in Puerto Rico—sunsets, parrots, and the day we spotted a manatee—plus a fun tease of a new product flavor that surprised us both. Then we get practical: a seven-day promise to make the bed, our family’s 10k-step accountability challenge, and the power of a simple scoreboard to keep promises to yourself. If you’re ready to swap overwhelm for a system, this conversation gives you the framework to start today.
Join us in mastering the basics: pick one habit, set proof, and find a partner. Tag us with your progress so we can cheer you on. If this resonated, subscribe, share it with a friend who needs a nudge, and leave a quick review to help others find the show.

Okay, welcome to another episode of our podcast. And we've got a lot of things to share with you guys. We had a really awesome week. We were on our influencer cruise. How many people do we have on that?
Jenny:Around 80.
Preston:80 people that we had out there. And it was awesome. Such an amazing event. We got to spend some amazing time with our influencers. Dude, we have the best influencers.
Jenny:We really do.
Preston:Like they're amazing. And really a great, great opportunity to connect and to share the vision. You gave a great message in your vision.
Jenny:Talked about vision.
Preston:What did you talk about?
Jenny:Which was a little scary, but I did it.
Preston:And she looked amazing as she did it.
Jenny:Thank you, baby. So I shared four things with my affiliates. Things that have been on my heart to be bold and stop playing small, sharing the vision, adapt, pivot, and change, and then serving God.
Preston:I love that. I love, you know what one of my things I love the most about you, Jenny?
Jenny:Well, baby.
Preston:Is I love how at every single one of our events, you make sure you talk about God. And when you give your presentations and when you talk to our affiliates, you are always including God in the mission, in the vision, and in the purpose. And I love that.
Jenny:Thanks, babe. So it's impossible for me, though, to see like our business and where it is now without recognizing the hand of God.
Preston:Yeah. That's true. And it's one thing I love is when we look back on our businesses, where we can look, and you can do this as well, right? I think we've talked about this before, where you can look back on your business, on your life, but just moments where you can clearly see that the hand of God came in and pulled you out of a moment or pulled you and put you in a different direction, or you know, fixed something or did something that you completely had no clue about. And then you can kind of just connect the dots, right? And look at all the times that his hand has helped you out. Also, okay, super cool experience we had on Sunday. So on Sundays, actually most days, I like to go. We have a spot here in Puerto Rico where we go to see the sunset, and then we go down there during the morning or afternoon, and we'll go see sea turtles.
Jenny:Like every day.
Preston:Like every day. You'll see the sea turtles come up and then they just go back under. And on Sunday, we went out there after church, and we saw a manatee. It was the coolest thing in the world.
Jenny:It really was.
Preston:Dude, I thought it was like a log coming out of the water, but it was this huge old like snout of these manatee, and it just kept coming up and out of the water.
Jenny:It was huge, and we kept like stopping strangers, like, there's a manatee in the water.
Preston:I don't know. I thought we were crazy. Maybe are you guys like that? Like, I love nature. I'm not like a crazy nature person. You kind of are, but like just like really cool things, right? Like, so here in Puerto Rico, we have Puerto Rican parrots, and I always laugh because you always find them on the 9th and on the 18th green on the golf course, and they squawk really, really, really loud. And I always feel like they're just squawking as if they're laughing at me.
Jenny:It actually sounds like they're laughing at you. Yeah. Does it affect her golf performance?
Preston:Oh, yeah. Mentally, those last two holes, I'm always horrible because I sit there thinking these parrots are just laughing at how bad I am. Which that's another thing. I know. Today, miracles. Miracles for real. Jenny rode along in the golf cart with me while I played golf.
Jenny:It's true.
Preston:First time ever.
Jenny:And I enjoyed it.
Preston:I enjoyed it. It was awesome.
Jenny:I enjoyed watching you play golf.
Preston:Next time we'll get you to play.
Jenny:Maybe.
Preston:So, anyways, that's a little bit of up to speed with us. Now let's get into some other stuff.
Jenny:Also, I'm currently drinking a brand new product.
Preston:And it tastes amazing.
Jenny:It's so good. What does it taste like to you?
Preston:Like a shaved ice cotton candy.
Jenny:I think so too. Or tiger's blood shaved ice. That is not the flavor, but that's what it tastes like to me.
Preston:I think it's my favorite flavor.
Jenny:I honestly think this might be our best-selling product. I think that this could surpass our number one.
Preston:Oh, it's amazing. I love it. So we won't be too long with you guys. I wanted to go over something today. And I was thinking about a lot of times as we were thinking about success and what it takes to be successful, or one of the biggest attributes of being successful. And I remembered a training that we had for our leadership and our salespeople in our pest control company. And we had a Navy SEAL come talk to us. And somebody asked him, they're like, Okay, well, what makes the Navy SEALs so amazing? Right. Like when you think of a Navy SEAL, you think of like the elite, the best of the best. And and so we sat there and we were like, you know, what makes you guys just so awesome? And he answered it and he said, There's not a lot of difference between a normal person in the military and a Navy SEAL. He said, The difference is we master the basics. And that really stuck to me because I thought about, and think about this in your life, right? What are the basic things that if we can do over and over and over, think about the amount of success we'd have. And he gave an example of when they were like in training, he said they would have a gun in their pocket and they'd have to pull it out and have the red dot line up with the target. And they would sit there for hours, just pulling the gun out of their pocket and immediately lining it up on the target over and over hours a day for months and months and months. And he said that practice that we did saved his life several times. Being able to just pull the gun out super quick, put it on his target, something super small, basic. Yeah. But they mastered it and he said it saved his life several times.
Jenny:Do you know what I was thinking about while you were sharing that?
Preston:Please tell me.
Jenny:Sports. Yes. I heard this thing about Larry Bird that he would shoot 500 free throws. That's a hard word for me to say. 500 free help me out pressure. Free throws a day because he was big on mastering the basics.
Preston:No, that's awesome. I mean, Larry Bird was Hall of Famer, one of the greatest basketball players ever. And it was something which is small, right? Or I think of like Tim Duncan. They called Tim Duncan the fundamental. Like there was nothing sexy about his game at all. But he just mastered the basics and you just couldn't stop him. And he won a bunch of NBA championships and he made it in the Hall of Fame.
Jenny:Another thing that this conversation made me think of is our top affiliates, our top influencers, and what makes them successful, they master the basics. They post every single day in their stories and on their feed.
Preston:Yeah. No, it's true. And I think here's the thing is look at your life, right? When I think about when I have goals that I'm trying to hit, most of my goals are not crazy things. It's if I can do this, this, this, and this, which are basic things, it compounds to reach crazy results. Right? Like if I wake up at the right time that I set my alarm for, and then I go to the gym, and then I listen to my scriptures, and then I listen to self-help. Like it compounds. And so like my day will be 10 times better. If I sleep too late and I don't go to the gym, like it just throws the whole day off, right? And I think that's the biggest thing is when you think about what it takes to be successful, it's not some crazy thing. And most people that I know that are successful aren't like crazy smart or aren't like better than anybody else. It's just that they mastered the basics and they showed up more and more and more and more than anybody else did. And they were willing to do the things and have the discipline to do it. So I want you to think about what is it in your life that you want to accomplish? And then reverse engineer that to say, okay, what are the basic things that you need to be doing in your life to get there? And then if you could master those things, it would help you get to what the result is that you're wanting. Think about that for a second. A lot of times it's like that general, right? When he says, if you want to change the world, start with making your bed. And we still don't make our bed.
Jenny:I was gonna say we both read that book and we don't make our bed every day, but we should. Crap!
Preston:But we will. But we will. We're going to start making our bed.
Jenny:We're gonna make the bed.
Preston:Yes.
Jenny:You heard it.
Preston:This next week, I will make the bed.
Jenny:Every day?
Preston:Every day for the next week.
Jenny:Really? How about forever?
Preston:How about we start with something small and basic? The next week, I will make the bed for the next week.
Jenny:I love that.
Preston:And I will report to you guys next week on the podcast.
Jenny:Perfect.
Preston:So, but no, I want you guys to think about this. Take what we talked about today, take small, simple, basic things, write them out. And I want you guys to put them in place and start trying to master those. I want you guys to think about that. And we're gonna check in next week on our podcast. We're gonna bring up how did you do on your goals about mastering the basic things. Okay, we will talk about it now because I think it's good. So we have this challenge we have in our family. And shout out to my brother for doing it. And we have a step challenge of getting 10,000 steps every day. Or 12,000 if you're 12,000 if you're Jenny. And we have accountability group where we show up and we got to post a picture of our watch or our phone, whatever counts our steps for us. And we did this what a year ago almost with your influencers. We did a month-long challenge, and I went and carried it on for like 180 days. And then I had surgery and I wasn't able to walk for a couple of days and broke the streak and then fell out of my rhythm on it. But now we're doing it again, and we did it for 30 days, and then we said, Hey know what, let's go another 30 days. And so now we're like 60 days into this thing, and everybody posts every night. And it's like you got to show proof.
Jenny:And we all show these videos of us when it's like 9, 11, 10 o'clock at night walking around our house. But here's the thing having a group and having an accountability partner really makes a huge difference. Because if I didn't have that group, I would not be walking the steps every single day.
Preston:No, I won't either. So, so two things then master the basics, write them down.
Jenny:And get an accountability partner. And if you don't have one, we will be your accountability partners. You can tag us on Instagram. I'll put our handles in the show notes, but it's Jenny underscore Peterson and Preston.
Preston:Peterson underscore 848.
Jenny:Yes. And tag us and we will keep you accountable.
Preston:Yes. We can do it together.
Jenny:And you can post about making the bed.
Preston:I will post in the Okay, I will post a picture of the bed made. It might not be the best looking bed that's made, but it will be made.
Jenny:Done is better than perfect.
Preston:It's true. But anyway, so this week, master the basics and find an accountability partner and make your bed. So tag us with your beds made this week, and then we'll know if you actually are listening to this podcast. And if you have a spouse that doesn't make their bed, share this out. Tag them in it so they listen to this so they can start making their beds.
Jenny:There you go.
Preston:See, look at that. We're saving the world one bed at a time.
Jenny:We're saving marriages, Mommy. One bed at a time.
Preston:We should be a marriage podcast. So, okay, that is what we got for you guys today. You guys are awesome. This is awesome. I enjoy doing this. So, and look at this. My wife's got me making the bed out of it.
Jenny:Well, I'm excited. I'm gonna let you know how this goes and if Preston can make the bed every single day this week.
Preston:If I can make the bed, anyone can make the bed. Oh my gosh. We will see you next week. And if you got some value out of this or enjoy it, share it and subscribe. And we will see you next week.
