Prepare to shatter your own expectations of what's possible as we dive into the realm of 10x goals, a concept that might just make achieving the audacious easier than the mundane. Inspired by Dr. Benjamin Hardy, this episode is a testament to the power of future-focused ambition over traditional incremental thinking. I reflect on how this seismic shift in goal-setting philosophy could redefine success, urging you to embrace a vision that's ten times bolder than your current aims. Through my own revelations, like ramping up my walking pad routine to symbolize this mindset, we'll explore how prioritizing who we become in the process can eclipse the how of getting there.

As we dissect the transformative impact of 10x goals in this episode, I invite you to join me in challenging the ceiling of your potential. Drawing parallels from industry titans like Apple, we examine the stark contrast between evolutionary leaps and simple steps forward. This conversation isn't just about setting targets; it's an encouragement to cultivate a relentless pursuit of growth, innovation, and personal evolution. By the end, you'll be equipped to recalibrate your objectives, aim for the stratosphere, and celebrate the strides you've already made. Here's to the extraordinary journey of becoming our future selves, with a hefty dose of self-compassion for the road traveled thus far.

Speaker 1:

Well, hey there, my beautiful friend, welcome to a new year and new episode of the Social Media Influencer podcast. I'm your host, jenny Peterson. I had to jump on and record this episode for you. So later today I have a meeting with my top view affiliates and we have a goal that we're working towards, and this week has been crazy busy my personal life, my business life, science, fair projects, it's cheer nationals next week, and then I've been in tons of meetings and in the last 24 hours I've been freaking out because I'm like I have this meeting coming up, I have nothing planned, I don't know what we're going to talk about, I don't know, I don't know how to kick off the meeting and what direction we should go in. And this morning, during my morning walk because I do that now, ps I bought a walking pad. It is the best investment that I have made this entire year. I'm going to link it in the show notes because it will change your life, helps you get your steps in.

Speaker 1:

So during my morning walk on my walking pad, I listened to two podcast episodes that were exactly what I needed to hear. And it wasn't just exactly what I needed to hear, it was more than what I needed to hear. Actually, it was one of those things that I'm like why? Why did I hear this today? Why couldn't I have listened to this two months ago, before we set the goal? My goal would have been different. I listened to two different podcasts, episodes from two different podcasters on the same topic, talking about a book 10x is easier than 2x by Dr Benjamin Hardy. Now hear me out. I have not listened to this book yet, and I say listen because I like to listen to my books on Audible. I haven't read this book yet. I have downloaded it to my Audible library. It is what I'm reading now. If you want to read it with me, I encourage you to do that and tag me on social media. On Instagram it's at Jenny underscore Peterson, and I realize I'm saying tag me. I haven't told you what the book is about.

Speaker 1:

So here's the basic concepts that I got. Basically, 10x is easier than 2x. So if you focus on 2x, you will try to do more of the same that you've already done and he talked about the 80 20 rule and that you will keep 80% of what you're doing to get to 2x. Basically, when you do 2x, you're doing more of the same. So when you make a 2x goal, what you're basically doing is you're looking at the past of what you've done and doing more of that and muscling through and it's more of like well, I just need to do more, I just need to work harder, I just need to double my efforts and I'll double my results.

Speaker 1:

However, if you 10x your goal, if you ask yourself a better question like how would I 10x this thing? It forces you outside of your comfort zone. It forces you to be creative and start coming up with different ideas and different solutions. Have you ever heard the saying what got you here will not get you there? What got you to this point now is not going to get you to your next level self. And if you and I, if we're going to make a 10x goal, talking about the 80 20 rule, we're we are keeping 20% of the things that we're doing now and cutting 80%.

Speaker 1:

When we make a 2x goal, the way that we try to accomplish that goal is by looking into the past what did we do in the past? And doing more of the same. When you make a 10x goal, it forces you to look at your future self. What would that person do differently to 10x this goal and you're operating from your future. The past and the future are just tools for the present. 10x is about the future, whereas 2x is coming from the past. 10x is about quality, 2x is about quantity, 10x is about less. 2x is about more. 10x forces you to ask who, whereas 2x focuses on how. 10x forces you to leap outside of your comfort zone. 2x keeps you safe and keeps you in that comfort zone.

Speaker 1:

The reason why this was such a kick in the face is because my leaders and I we have picked a 2x goal and I'm like, oh my gosh. I'm not going to change the goal on them, obviously, but I do want to have a conversation with them about what if we 10x this goal? What would that look like? What would we need to do to hit 10x instead of 2x? And I can totally see it. We had a strategy meeting last week coming up with ideas, and the ideas that we're coming up with were ideas that we've done in the past, things that we've done in the past that have worked, and what got you here will not get you there. So I'm going to give you a couple of examples.

Speaker 1:

I mentioned earlier that I got a walking pad Best purchase of 2024, okay, and I'm wearing my Apple Watch again, so I'm tracking my steps. I realized that I was walking around 5,000 steps a day and I made a goal of walking 10,000 steps. That's a 2X goal. What if I had made the goal to 10X? Walk 50,000 steps in a day? The person who walks 50,000 steps in a day and the person who walks 10,000 steps in a day are two completely different people. It would force me to jump outside of my comfort zone. It would force me to come up with new solutions, new ways to get those steps in.

Speaker 1:

If my goal was to walk 50,000 steps in a day, I'd basically have to be walking all day. Let's be real. I'd probably get up an hour earlier and jump on the walking pad for an hour. I'd probably order a second walking pad and put it in my office so I could walk all day while I was working on my computer, on my phone, and just walk. Maybe I would walk my kids to school. I'd definitely walk all three of my dogs and probably do it individually, because if you ever see me walking down the street with three dogs, it is a sight to behold. Okay, especially where it's icy outside, I don't stand a chance. I don't stand a chance. But by 10Xing my walking goal. I would have to come up with new solutions. I'd have to get creative and innovative. I would have to cut the 80% that I'm doing now, keep the 20% that I'm doing and implement new things so that I could change.

Speaker 1:

So let's talk about change for a minute, because I think change is a very important part of life. We are constantly growing, we're constantly evolving, we're constantly stretching, we're constantly changing, we're constantly leveling up. The price of your new life is your old one and to me, this idea of changing, evolving, progressing really is a spiritual one for me, because I believe that you and I were created by a loving Heavenly Father. He knows you, he loves you and he knows the person that he created, you, designed you to become. He knows your potential, he knows what you're capable of doing. So to me, this idea of changing is never ending.

Speaker 1:

We're always gonna be changing, progressing, leveling up, stretching and growing. We're always gonna be chasing our potential, trying to become better versions of ourselves, and the truth is most people don't. Most people wanna stay the same. Most people wanna stay inside their comfort zones. Most people are living well below their potential. But you and I, friend, we are not. Most people are we. How do I know that? Because you're listening to this episode right now. You found this episode for a reason. There is greatness inside of you and deep down inside, you want more for your life.

Speaker 1:

I love this quote by President Boyd K Packer. Things that don't change remain the same, and when we are through changing, we're through. Changing is a never ending process and we can change by focusing on two X's our goals. Or what would happen if we 10 X our goals? Can you even imagine what that looks like? Can you even imagine what the future version of yourself looks like if you are 10 Xing your goals? 10 Xing our goals would allow us to take these quantum leaps, these huge leaps. It would allow us to change so much faster, becoming a better version of ourselves, progressing and just chasing down our potential. What does a 10 X leap look like? It looks like going from crawling to walking or crawling to running, whereas a two X leap is how can I crawl faster? 10 X leap is going from horse and buggy to car to vehicle. A 10 X leap is going from blockbuster to Netflix. Here's a 10 X story for you.

Speaker 1:

Apple made the iPod and that was their best selling product, and instead of focusing on how can we make the iPod better, they had a 10 X goal. They wanted a 10 X leap and they were focused on creating the iPhone. Their competitor, microsoft, was just trying to compete with Apple's iPod and they were focused on creating the best mp3 player. Which, for you little chickies out there that don't even know what an mp3 player is, google it, or you might be able to find one of these old relics in a museum, I don't know, they're obsolete now, right. But Microsoft was focused on competing and they wanted to create the best mp3 player, and they did, and it was called Zune. I believe it's called Zune. Honestly, I had never heard of it until this morning. Have you ever heard of the Zune? I'm guessing probably not. Have you ever heard of the iPhone? Yes, I know you have. The difference in these two companies is Apple was taking a 10x leap. They had a 10x goal. They were focusing on their next innovation, they were focusing on the next big product, whereas Microsoft was just competing. They didn't have a 10x goal or 10x vision. They were just trying to do more of the same, trying to improve upon the iPod, and they did, but one of them you've never heard of and one of them everybody uses.

Speaker 1:

At the time of this recording, it's January 2024 and I know all the hype New year, new me, new goals. Have you made your goals? Take a look at your goals. Did you make little piddly 2x goals or did you make 10x goals? And if you're like me and you made 2x goals, girl, let's change it. Let's sit down and make some 10x goals today. Let's sit down and focus on who do we want to become in the future? What does that future self look like? How does that future self live? What does her day to day look like? What habits does she need to start today to become the person that she's going to become.

Speaker 1:

And if you want a different result, you need to start asking yourself some different questions like how would I 10x this? It's going to force you outside of your comfort zone. It's going to force you to become innovative. It's going to force you to leave behind the 80% of you and focus on that 20%. It's going to force you to do things you've never done before. And if you want to become different, if you want a different life. You need to do something different.

Speaker 1:

So I'm going to have to go to my group today, my meeting today, and say you know what? We set the wrong goal and I got to forgive myself for doing that. I didn't know what I know now, but we set a 2x goal and we should have set a 10x goal, because that would have created different solutions. That would have really forced us to get creative and innovative, do things that we've never done before. That would make us focus on who and not how. So I'm gonna tell them look, I'm not gonna change the goal. I don't feel like that's fair. I feel like that's pulling the rug out from underneath them. But I'm gonna tell them we set the wrong goal and I want you to really sit and think what would we have to do to 10x this goal? I want them to sit with that question. I want them to think and brainstorm and strategize and then come to our next meeting with those solutions. And I can't force them to do it, but I can definitely do it for myself. I can definitely sit down today and say you know what? I'm not gonna change the goal for them, but I'm changing the goal for me. It's not the piddly 2x goal that I set for this group of people. Now I'm gonna focus on what can I do to 10x this goal.

Speaker 1:

Before I let you go, I just wanna let you know that you are amazing. If nobody else has told you today, you are incredible. You are one of a kind. You are the only you that has ever existed and will ever exist, and I want you to give yourself some grace and really be compassionate with your past self. I want you to look back at your past self and just appreciate how far you've come. Are you the same person you were 10 years ago? Probably not. If you're listening to this podcast episode right now, I bet if you looked back at the person you were 10 years ago, you are a completely different person. Look back at that past person and see how far you've come and appreciate that gain and then look forward. Who do you wanna be in 10 years? What does that person look like? How does she live, how does she operate? What habits does she have? And really sit with it and create a vision for yourself.

Speaker 1:

And I'm gonna do another episode on vision boards, because I love vision boards. They work. I recently made a new vision board, which I am gonna be updating, because now I'm setting 10x goals, but I completed 80 to 90% of my past vision board, checked it off, it happened, manifested. So I'm gonna do an episode on vision boards. I hope you come back and join me for that, because they really do work and they can be powerful influence in your life. And the reason why I love vision boards is because it really helps you to visualize that future self, to visualize the future you who you are becoming. It really helps you to get crystal clear on what do you want, because the actions that you take today matter. What you do today matters. Do something today that your future self will thank you for.

Speaker 1:
